Intro addendum a.k.a. The DUI Guy’s evolution

6064330

This is kind of an odd post. But, I am writing it just for you. No, yea, you read that correctly — you, the client.

You see, I have a confession to make.

I was, still am, and always will be the DUI Guy; but, I feel that I need to confess a truth that has come to light since my intro blog post.

In it I made a bold statement that I still stand by and will continue to stand by until the day I die:

” … I think it is important for an attorney to be able to devote his or her entire time and attention to one subject and master it in order to best benefit the client and their case. “

However, the first part of that quote is what I would like to point out:

” I only handle DUI cases because …”

That is no longer a true statement. And there are a number of very important reasons for my decision.

First, I have learned (that’s not the correct verb.. how about: “got beaten into my head by other attorneys” — yea, that works) that it is nearly impossible for an attorney to survive solely by taking one type of case, e.g. DUI. There just aren’t that many DUI cases in our fair city. Fine. “I’ll broaden the vistas,” I told them. So, in order to survive and be able to make a living, I now accept a variety of criminal cases.

Second, many other cases, both criminal and civil, are really fun to handle. I don’t want to miss out on the action. I mean, come on. A love triangle case? An unemployed man, wife, and mistress — that just sounds exciting! — Although I’ll probably regret it afterwards. It’ll make for some great stories, though. Sounds like a fair trade.

Lastly, I feel that I have theoretically understood DUIs and am hungry for more. The hunger for knowledge be a brutal mistress and it’s hard to keep her at bay. Her sharp claws scratch at my brain relentlessly and without mercy and I have given in. I want to continue my focus on criminal law, but I am currently dipping my feet into the civil side as well.

Like I said, I fully stand by my November statement that an attorney must “master [a subject] in order to best benefit the client and their case.” Thus, while I continue to explore new legal topics, you can rest assured that I have researched the area your case deals with systemically and am prepared to launch whatever assault your case necessitates.

It was over 2,500 years ago that Sun Tzu wrote:

” Generally the one who first occupies the battlefield awaiting the enemy is at ease. “

And,

” He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared. “

Thank you for stopping by.

I hope to see you again.

No, I really do.
